Not so many years ago Reynolds was a name that conjured up classic steel frames, but recent developments have seen the brand becoming synonymous with carbon components, in particular its extensive range of wheels and forks.
The latest addition to its range of carbon wheels look like being the pick of the bunch. For £899 the Assault features a 46mm full uni-directional carbon clincher rim, in the same profile as the more expensive DV46’s.
DT Competition spokes, 20 front and 24 rear, lace the carbon rims to the Reynolds hubs, radial on the front and two-cross on the rear driveside. Nipples are concealed within the rim, and a supplied special spoke key allows access from inside the rim.
Complete weight is 1,550g (which compares well with 1,484g for the DV46C’s).
Upgrade Bikes are the UK distributor. Once we’ve pushed the wheels through some quality miles, we’ll report back with our findings.
