The world’s first fully-certified organic energy and hydration drinks have been launched by Blackburn-based sports nutrition company Science in Sport.
Organic variants of the products PSP22 and Go Electrolyte, which were used successfully by Team GB Cycling and Team GB Sailing at the Beijing Olympics, will be premiered at the Triathlon Show in Surrey in early February.
With its two new sports drinks, Science in Sport (SiS) is the first company to meet the Organic Farmers and Growers Federation (OF&G) organic classification standards.
Organic PSP22 is a complex carbohydrate energy fuel for high-energy performance and Organic Go Electrolyte is a carbohydrate energy fuel with electrolytes to give the athlete ultimate performance in the heat.
Both drinks allow rapid hydration and aid high-energy performance at all sporting levels.
Science in Sport has spent five years developing manufacturing methods to ensure it meets stringent production line standards and materials certification to offer a fully certified quality product.
Tim Lawson, director of Science in Sport, said: “We are committed to offering and developing high quality exercise- and sport-related nutritional products. Since day one we have worked with athletes to develop products which meet their training and performance needs.
“This launch follows a five year research and development project. Whilst our products have used many organic ingredients for years, it was not as simple as replacing all non-organic ingredients.”
“All Science in Sport products are drug-free and developed in accordance with World Anti Doping Organisation (WADA) regulations on prescribed substances. Our in-house manufacturing facility allows us to ensure each and every product meets our required standards.”
Organic PSP22 will be available in a 50g sachet (rsp £1.50) and 1.4kg tub (rsp £33.50).
Organic Go Electrolyte will be available in a 40g sachet (rsp £1.50) and 1.4kg tub (rsp £33.50).
The products will initially be available in specialist sport stores and health food shops.
Science in Sport has a long standing presence at the elite end of sport and its heritage is in cycling. 1992 Olympic Gold medallist Chris Boardman helped inspire the creation of its first product Rego, the total sports recovery fuel.
In 2008, the three grand cycling tours were all won by teams using Science in Sport products; the Tour de France (CSC Saxo Bank), Giro d’Italia and Vuelta de Espana (Astana).
Today, Science in Sport is the official nutrition supplier to Team GB Cycling and Team GB Sailing and its products are used by athletes from a variety of professional sports including top class football, rugby and swimming.
