Addict CX
Scott has released the Addict CX, a cyclo-cross variant of the road-specific Addict. The 984g frame is based very closely on the road-going model, but with a few changes to make it suitable for the demanding conditions of typical ‘cross races.
Most of the changes centre around the ‘Maxmud’ seatstays and chainstays, which as well as providing more tyre and mud clearance see an integrated cable stop with barrel adjuster fixed atop the seat stays for cantilever brakes. Top tube cable routing is offset to keep clear of the shoulder when lifting the bike.
Plasma
Scott is making great claims for its radically new Plasma TT bike. Looking nothing like its predecessor and instead resembling something out of a futuristic sci-fi movie, the new Plasma makes use of Scott’s latest IMP5 (integrated moulding process) to create the front triangle as one piece. Air flow analysis has allowed Scott to streamline the frame as much as possible, with narrower profile tubes than many of its direct rivals helping the Plasma to slice through the air.
A top tube concept with aero channels scalloped on the sides, ‘Shelter127’ is the name given to the designer’s attempt to have the frame and fork curve around the wheels. ‘The Speed Skeg’ bottom bracket reveals two interesting elements; the downtube extends below the BB shell to push air around the rear wheel and the chainstays extend past the front of the BB to form a leading edge. Cables are routed internally with rubber seals preventing dirt and sweat entering the frame, and the new fork has been designed in conjunction with the frame to work seamlessly with the large downtube.
The ‘TwinTurbo’ chainstays feature an upward kink just before the horizontal dropouts, which get both wheel position adjustment screws and an alloy replaceable derailleur hanger. As on the Addict, an integrated seat mast features; here the Ritchey seat clamp allows the seat angle to be adjusted between 73 and 79 degrees.
