Scott launches Plasma 3 time trial bike

Less than a year since Scott launched its Plasma 2 time trial bike, the company has launched the Plasma 3 which was seen for the very first time in the Giro d’Italia team time trial last weekend, and which went on to win the stage with Mark Cavendish taking the pink jersey. Not a bad debut for a brand new bike.

The Plasma 3 has been developed in collaboration with Team Columbia-Highroad, and visually the most apparent change is at the front, where the stem is now integrated into the frame. This integration creates a smooth level line from the tip of the stem right along the top tube, and places the front end a lot lower so it should help the riders get the low position they all crave. The top tube is a lot slimmer than previously, and the headtube has been enlarged.

Other changes include the relocation of the rear brake caliper to above the chainstays and behind the bottom bracket, and Scott have also removed the integrated seat mast in favour of a conventional aero-shaped seat post. Much of the rest of the frame remains almost the same as the previous Plasma, such as the kinked chainstays – now substantially oversized, and huge down tube – which has now been positioned slightly away from the front wheel with the previous cut-out gone.

All the cables route internally, including through the new stem creating a particularly tidy bike with few exposed cables. This is also one of the first bikes that has been designed with groupsets such as Shimano’s Di2 electronic in mind, with all the necessary cables and the battery tucked away inside the frame.
