You just can’t beat a good bottlecage [ my thoughts exactly – ed.], one that is light, allows easy access to water bottles and above, looks good. And the choice has now got a little wider with the release of the Nanogram from Speedplay.
The company better known for its tiny but mighty pedals has branched out with a carbon fibre bottle cage that weighs a measly 19g. While this low weight leads one to the conclusion that it might be a bit, well fragile, Speedplay say its unique design and use of unidirectional carbon provides a strong cage. Integral to its success is the placing of the water bottle stop at the top of the cage, and Speedplay combines this design feature with the natural resilience of carbon to absorb the repetitive impacts of rough roads and from riders banging closed the water bottle top.
The Nanogram cage includes lightweight aluminum fasteners and a BPA-Free Nanogram logo water bottle. At 19 grams, the Speedplay Nanogram Ultra Light is intended solely for road bike use. However, a Speedplay Nanogram Cage is also available at 27 grams that is suitable for mountain and road bikes as well as the behind-the-seat triathlon position.
Available August priced around £60.
