SRAM issues recall for 10-speed Red WiFli rear derailleurs

American company finds safety issue with product

SRAM has issued a product recall for the ten-speed medium cage WiFli rear derailleur from its top-of-the-range Red groupset following safety concerns.

SRAM has found potential for the derailleur parallelogram to jam and not shift and says failure while in use may “result in loss of bicycle control and possible injury.”

The recall affects products with serial numbers between 31T2000000 and 11T39999999. SRAM has asked owners of a Red WiFli rear derailleur to stop riding immediately, check the serial number (see the image below for serial number location) and return any affected derailleur to their local dealer for a replacement.

The location of the serial number can be seen in this picture

Dealers with the derailleur installed on a complete bike as part of a groupset, within the indicated serial number range, can exchange the product with a local SRAM DSD, TechCenter or SRAM distributor. Return of the existing derailleur is required and replacements will be shipped with a new SRAM 1091R chain.

SRAM has extended its apologies to all consumers and businesses affected by the recall. The official recall notification can be read here.
