Team Sky and Pinarello extend sponsorship agreement to 2020

Chris Froome and co to continue riding Pinarello bikes after four-year sponsorship extension

Team Sky will continue to ride Pinarello bikes through to the end of the 2020 season after Dave Brailsford’s British WorldTour team agreed a four-year sponsorship extension with the Italian brand, announced on the second rest day of the Tour de France.

Pinarello and Team Sky have become synonymous, having partnered since the squad’s debut year in 2010.

Team Sky riders have won three editions of the Tour de France since then, with Sir Bradley Wiggins triumphing in 2012, followed by Chris Froome in 2013 and 2015. Froome, bidding for his third title, now leads the 2016 race with five stages remaining.

The team’s riders have used six different bikes since 2010: starting on the Dogma 60.1, before switching to the Dogma 2, Dogma 65.1, Dogma F8 and Dogma K8-S (for the Classics), while Froome is now riding the latest evolution of the Dogma, the 780g Xlight frame, at this year’s Tour.

Team Sky’s time trial bike has also evolved from the Graal, to the Bolide, to the current Bolide TT.

“Evolution never stops, and there is still a huge desire to grow together with Team Sky. We still have so many ideas on the shelf to help bring Team Sky higher and higher,” said Fausto Pinarello.

Over the course of the past six-and-a-half seasons, Team Sky riders have scored 232 wins (including 26 Grand Tour stage wins), two World Championship victories and 656 podium places.

Chris Froome added: “Having ridden Pinarello bikes since joining Team Sky, the greatest rides and best wins of my career have been on a Pinarello. The bikes are the embodiment of Pinarello’s long heritage in the sport and their unique understanding of racing.”
