With the countdown to the Grand Départ of the Tour de France well underway, excitement is mounting in Yorkshire.
The Yorkshire Bicycle Show, which will be held at Leeds Town Hall, just yards from the start of the opening stage, is set to be one of the main attractions.
Organisers have assembled a guest list of authors, artists, adventure cyclists, and even an Olympic champion, as well as a host of exhibitors, for the three-day show, which opens on Friday July 4.
An eclectic mix of exhibitors will display a range of desirable wares for the cyclist, ranging from coffee to clothing, with bikes, nutrition, and bike fitting services also on show. Legendary tubing specialists, Reynolds, and Nottingham giants, Raleigh – both former Tour winners – are among those set to show their products.
A paid, ticketed event to raise funds for the charity CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) will offer visitors a chance to enjoy brunch with Olympic gold medalist, Steven Burke, and his team-mates on the Haribo-Beacon squad. Tickets cost £25.
A series of talks is also planned, with speakers including author, Tim Moore, whose hilarious book, Gironimo, records his odyssey around Italy on a 100-year-old bike, following the route of the 1914 Giro d’Italia, and Xavier Disley, a coaching expert with an interest in training with power.
Film screenings will include Life Cycles, a story of the bike from creation to demise, and Bicycle, a short film billed as “a warm reflection on cycling”.
Tickets to the show can be bought in advance for £4 with a £1 booking fee. A weekend ticket, guaranteeing entry to the show on all three days, costs £10 with a £1.25 booking fee.
A special two-for-one deal, offering entry to the show on Sunday July 6, costs just £4 with a £1 booking fee. Organisers warn that these tickets are selling quickly.
