Tifosi Slip eyewear £45.99
There sure is a lot to write about with ‘eyewear’; stuff about ventilation ports, hydrophilic (or should that be hydrophobic?) nose pads, optical clarity, lens interchangeability… Tifosi’s Slip model has all these and more and does a great job of doing all the things you’d want of high performance eye protection for cycling.
That is, or course, what eyewear is for; keeping airborne muck out of the eyes, hazardous UV radiation away from delicate tissues and, of course, minimizing the tiring effects of dazzling sunlight.
Tifosi’s Enhanced Visual System lenses are made from impact-resistant polycarbonate, ‘decentred’ to improve visual acuity at the periphery of the field of vision and offered in a choice of tints depending on the model. Slip gets a different selection as standard depending on the colour of the frame, the Pearl White sample tested coming with Clear, Smoke, Yellow and All Conditions Red lenses.
The one-piece lens is simplicity itself to remove from the high-strength Grilamid TR90 ‘Open Frame’, allowing easy cleaning or changing. An opening between the top of the frame and each lens helps airflow keep the lens clear of condensation, while folding frame arms with reliable steel hinge pins make for easy stowage.
Fit is said to be suitable for ‘small to large faces’; no problems with the tester’s indeterminate head size in any case. Once in place, their 24g weight goes largely unnoticed while the rubber pads ensure a high degree of comfort. Visualhere is eyewear that proves you needn’t spend a fortune to get top performance and a decent helping of style.
Supplied with cloth bag and semi-rigid case plus selection of lenses. Frame colours: Matte Black, Iron, Pearl White, Metallic Baby Blue (with Extreme Contrast lens).
