Trek have unveiled the Domane Koppenberg – a frameset which combines the IsoSpeed features of the Domane with the geometry of the Émonda, and ridden to victory by Fabian Cancellara at the 2014 Tour of Flanders.
The Domane, which has an innovative IsoSpeed decoupler on the seattube and toptube junction to improve comfort, was developed with Trek Factory Racing rider Cancellara to tackle the rough roads and cobblestones of races like Paris-Roubaix.
The Domane has since become the bike of choice for the Swiss rider year-round, regardless of the terrain. However, while to the casual observer Cancellara’s regular race machine may look identical to the Domane Classics edition, itself made available to the public last year, ridden by Spartacus at Paris-Roubaix, away from the grueling demands of the Hell of the North, the 33-year-old rides a frame based around Trek’s aggressive H1 geometry, also found on the recently-released Émonda SLR.
The Domane Classics gives the frame a shorter headtube and longer toptube than the regular Domane likely to be ridden by you or I, but the Domane Koppenberg takes that further with a tighter wheelbase and steeper angles to provide the quick, agile handling that Cancellara demands away from Paris-Roubaix.
“The Classics version features our Pro Endurance geometry, which was built to pair Domane’s stability for the Classics races with a short head tube height to fit our pro racers. The Koppenberg version uses our H1 fit and geometry to make it better suited for the Grand Tours and hilly Classics races,” say Trek.
Cancellara is not the only Trek Factory Racing rider to have won and raced on the Domane Koppenberg this season, with victories recorded on stage three of the Tour de San Luis by Giacomo Nizzolo, the New Zealand National Championship by Hayden Roulston, stage one of the Driedaagse van West-Vlaanderen by Danny van Poppel and stage five of the Tour of Austria by Jesse Sergent.
The Domane Koppenberg frameset will be available from September in Trek Factory Racing team colours only, in sizes 56cm, 58cm, 60cm and 62cm, for £2,600.
