Wilier have been making bikes for over 100 years and the brand is one of those
emblematic Italian names: Vespa, Alfa Romeo, Ferrari and Pavarotti, despite
sounding a bit German. Apparently the founder wanted a name with
an international feel.
Since then Wilier’s heritage hasn’t held them back and the company epitomises
Italian cool and modernity. (Check out Ballan’s
race bike, Marco
Pantani’s Tour machine and the Wilier musuem)
Riding Wilier bikes, Pro Tour team Lampre-Fondital saw some great wins in 2007 with
Alessandro Ballan winning the Tour of Flanders (pictured above), Damiano Cunego
taking the Tour of Lombardy and sprinter Daniele Bennati scoring stage wins at the
Tour de France.
Wilier’s carbon-fibre frames are designed and the moulds made in Italy before production
takes place under the watchful eye of Wilier in the Far East.
