Recce
Recce
As with any event, the best way to get a feel for the course is to recce the route first – and the beauty of a criterium is you can usually do so just before you race.
Roe puts a lot of emphasis on her recce of the route, something she says is an essential part of her pre-race routine, allowing her to scope out any key corners and check the direction of the wind.
“It’s really important to pre-ride the course,” she says. “I’ll pop around the course and look at things like which way the wind direction is and get a feel for the course and then I’ll do my warm-up.
“Before the race I’ll do another recce, just to check if the wind direction has changed and see if there is anything that I might have missed beforehand.”
