C-Originals may be new in the helmet market, but the team behind the brand have been around for more than 20 years, supplying helmets to a host of well known brands.
We were sent the SV84, priced at £60, to cast our eye over. The helmet weighs a claimed 270g, which is a decent figure for the price point. A ‘superman-shape’ design, with 23 vents, provides plenty of air flow and the helmet looks the part. It also uses an adjustable cradle insert to get the fit spot on, which, with my odd shaped head, works well.
I was surprised to find that the odd strap loop didn’t cause any annoyance, presumably the padding that covers it solves that. However, the stitching at the front, connecting two pad inserts, should be made into one piece. After a couple of rides the threads began to split and can rub against your head and cause irritation.
Current helmet design trends dictate that most lids come out of a fairly similar mould and the SV84 certainly fits this cannon, with an inconspicuous shell which doesn’t bulge out much from your head.
And so the SV84 fits well and survived a clash with the pavement after I was hit by a car, although some tweaks to the internal padding would be needed to turn it into a winner. Sizes are S/M (56-58cm) and M/L (56-61cm), and the helmet is available in four colours (pearl white, titanium, black and yellow).
