For budget-busting road bikes, there are few cheaper than Carerra – and Halfords’ in-house brand has unveiled its three-strong revamped 2011 road range.
The collection, which is available now, kicks off with the Carerra TDF, which was meant to be a limited edition machine solely for 2010 but has proved so popular that it’s become a permanent addition to the range.
The TDF – short, of course, for Tour de France – shouts from the rooftops with its yellow colourway to reflect the Tour’s leader’s jersey. As for the spec, a Shimano 2300 8-speed drivetrain sits on the alloy frame, with the retail price dropped from £449.99 to £299.99.
Stepping up a level, the Virtuoso, which retails at £399.99, boasts an upgraded 6061 alloy frame, 16-speed Shimano Sora gears, FSA compact chainset and Tektro brakes, finished off with white and blue paintjob.
Finally, the Carerra road range tops out at £549.99 with the Vanquish, with its black and green colourway. For your money you get a 7005 alloy butted frame, carbon fibre fork, 18-speed Shimano Tiagra/Sora gears and Shimano WHR500 wheels, wrapped in Kenda tyres.
