Majorca is famous among cyclists as a warm weather training base, but the Spanish island also plays host to a number of sportives, including the two-day Duva International Sportive.
The 2012 event is will take place on April 21-22, with Saturday’s 140km mountain ride taking in three of the island’s best climbs; the Orient, the Col De Soller and the 14km Puig Major.
Sunday’s 95km route heads along the coast past Alcudia, swinging inland onto the day’s timed climb before dropping back down to Sineu, where you can try your hand at track cycling on the outdoor velodrome while at the feedstop, before following an undulating course back to the event HQ in Port De Pollensa for the rider party and presentations.
If two days riding sounds too much, you can choose one day – mountains or flat – depending on your level of fitness.
The event boasts rolling police and motorcycle outrider road closures, timed climbs, well-stocked feedstops, mechanical back-up, broom wagon and, fingers crossed, good weather.
Riders can prepare for the sportive by spending the week beforehand at a training camp. Wheels in Wheels – organisers of the sportive – offer three, seven and nine day packages.
All UK riders who enter the Duva International Sportive before January 1 2012 will go into a prize draw to win a free three-night weekend accommodation package at the Duva Hotel for the weekend of the event.
