Television presenter Davina McCall has issued a rallying call for female cyclists to join her on Action Medical Research’s DIVA100 ride on Sunday May 8.
The all-female ride, setting out from Cowdray Park in Midhurst, Sussex, offers a choice of two rural routes – the 100km challenge or a shorter 50km course.
McCall caught the cycling bug after doing Sports Relief’s John O’Groats to Land’s End ride last year and will also ride the DIVA100.
“I’ve become a cycling bore since then, but I love it with a passion,” said McCall. “It’s an affordable, sociable way to keep fit and doesn’t have to be competitive. Although when Matthew and I go out together it always is.
“I’ve been involved with Action Medical Research since I was a child, but this is my first cycling event for the charity.
“I hope lots of ladies saddle up and join me for this new fundraiser. It’s going to be a fun day out and a great way to help such a special charity raise much-needed funds. Come on the girls!”
A free training guide, supplied by event sponsors Specialized, is available to help prepare for the ride and the event is fully supported, with services including food stops, massage therapists and lunch once the weary riders return.
Entry costs £28 and riders will also need to raise a minimum of £50 in sponsorship. Money raised will help fund research into medical conditions affecting babies and children, including meningitis, epilepsy and cerebral palsy.
