Volunteering on this year’s Tour of Britain
British Cycling and the Tour of Britain are once again working together to provide opportunities for volunteer marshals on this year’s Tour. There are couple of differences to last year, first is that they are aiming to recruit around four times as many people (roughly 2000!). Secondly there is going to be a change in how to apply. BC are developing an on line form that will allow volunteers to chose the location that they prefer from their own PC. These new forms will be released as the exact routes for each stage is released at their regional launch and will be available from the Tour of Britain Website.
The dates for the regional launches are:
Stage one – Glasgow to Castle Douglas – 1 June
Stage two – Blackpool to Liverpool – 31 May
Stage three – Yorkshire – 25 June
Stage four – West Midlands – To be confirmed
Stage five – Kent – 6 June
Stage six – London – more details soon
Unfortunately they can’t pay travelling expenses and hope that the tour ‘will come to you’. But they will provide all the volunteers with goodie bags and the safety equipment necessary to be a marshal. Volunteers for the Kent and London stages will be able to qualify themselves to be marshals at the Tour de France. If you haven’t registered for the Tour de France yet the link for that and some other opportunties to volunteer are on the BC site too.
