After a 12-year break the Milk Race Reunion is back, thanks to sponsorship by builders merchants, Jewson. Leeds University will be the host of this unique event on 1 October 2005.
First run back in 1958, this reunion will bring back past winners, riders and supporters. For example 74-year old Richard Durlacher, who won the very first race in 1958 will make an appearance. We don’t know if he’ll be racing though.
Managing director of Jewson, and also an ex-racer, Peter Hindle said:
‘The Milk Race was a great event and brought cycling to the masses across the UK. Over the years, it gave thousands of people the opportunity to participate in, or soak up the atmosphere of a great sporting occasion. This reunion will bring together some of the greats of British cycling and we’re happy to be involved.’
The organisers would like to hear from anyone involved in the Milk Race and you can contact them for more information about the reunion by calling John Oxnard on 0191 236 3442 or emailing [email protected]
