Why not take the club run to the second round of the National Trophy Cyclo-cross? It is this Sunday in Cheltenham and should be great day out with top class elite racing around a really spectator friendly course (you will need to pack a pair of walking shoes/wellies). It’s pretty rare that you can get this close to the action and the skills and speed of the racing is very impressive. Commentary on Sunday is from no less than Mr. Phil Liggett.
In the Men’s race, in-form riders Nick Craig (Giant) and Matt Ellis (On One) who were first and second in round one should be the favourites. However, they won’t have an easy day and will take on a mighty challenge from all the big names in UK Cyclo-cross. Jody Crawforth (Evans) will be after a higher spot on the podium after round one and expect a good showing from Olympic MTB star Liam Killeen (Subaru/Gary Fisher). Also look out for Phil Dixon (ACE RT) and Adrian Timmis (Pinarello) a former Tour de France rider on the comeback trail.
The women’s race looks to be the highlight of the day, with World Champion Laurence Leboucher of France taking on round one winner Helen Wyman from Team Bottechia/Fat Birds Don’t Fly. The rest of the start list in this race is super strong, with Jenny Copnall (Subaru/Gary Fisher), Isla Rowntree & Louise Robinson (both Stourbridge CC) and Victoria Wilkinson (SIS) to name just a few of the challengers. This race starts at 13.16pm and is one not to miss as it should be a close battle for the top three.
Racing starts at 10.30am with the Youth races and the final race, Elite Men, begins at 14.30pm.
