Peak District 100 packs in the climbing

The Peak District 100 on Sunday June 19 is billed as the toughest in Action Medical Research’s RIDE100 series.

Starting and finish from Dore, on the outskirts of Sheffield, the 100-mile route packs in 2,600m climbing, while the shorter 100km option still features 1,700m of ascent. Both routes tackle the Mam Tor and Frogatt climbs.

The event is fully supported, with feed stations, lunch, marshals and mechanics, and chip timing.

“Cycling in the Peak District is an awesome experience and we’ve put together an event that will push people to the limits,” said Action Medical Research’s UK Cycling Development Manager Mark Trott.

“The National Park provides some of the most challenging cycling terrain in the UK and you’ll need to have put in some serious hill work to overcome the climbs that you’ll encounter.

“The rugged features of the Peaks are a great backdrop to any cycle ride and whether you choose the 100km or 100-mile route, finishing will fill you with a great sense of achievement.”

Cyclists participating in the Peak District 100 will be raising money to help fund medical research into conditions affecting babies and children.

Entry costs £28 and can be made online at www.action.org.uk/peak_district_100
