recycling.co.uk / MG XPower / Litespeed’s Evan Oliphant (representing Scotland) took the biggest win of his career yesterday winning the East Yorkshire Classic Premier Calendar race in fine style. Evan won the race by 43 seconds after escaping shortly after the final climb to win alone ahead of Yanto Barker (DFL) and Matt Stephens (Sigma Sport).
Evan joined a chase group that made it across to an early move that included his Recycling team mates Rob Sharman, winner of the previous round, Russell Downing and Ben Greenwood. Sharman would attack shortly after, to be joined by Barker, with the pair leading the race for 15 to 20-miles, but with their lead at no more than a minute they succumbed to the chase behind.
Evan made his race winning attack just over the top of the race’s final climb with 7-miles to go and kept off a chase pairing of Barker and Stephens to take a superb lone win by 43 seconds, he explained afterwards “I didn’t feel good at the start of the race but just got better and better, towards the end I noticed everyone else looked like they were feeling bad, so I just had a go, it was a long way out and it was really hard, but I managed to keep the two chasers at bay.”
The likable Scott is showing huge potential at such a young age, this is Evan’s first season as a full time bike rider and he has just steped out of the Espoirs class, he explained, “I was at University last year and struggled towards the end of the season, this year I just feel stronger and stronger.” And with the National Road Race Championship just days away, he is in a confident mood, “It’s looking good for this weekend!”
