The Magnificat 2010

Mavic and Torq join Verenti Bikes as sponsors of The Magnificat

Things are shaping up nicely for the 2010 edition of the Magnificat, with news that both Mavic and Torq will be joining Verenti Bikes to bring their acknowledged services and support to this UCI accredited sportive.

Organiser Ken Robson is delighted with these developments and added:

“Cyclists can take part in The Magnificat in the knowledge that when quality sponsors Verenti Bikes, Mavic and Torq are involved we can offer one of the best rider supported sportives in the UK this year.  Add to that the significant improvement in HQ facilities at Newbury Racecourse, it is going to be a great day of cycling on Sunday 13th June.

“The new location has enabled us to make course design improvements that will add new and interesting challenges to the main rides. For example the new Scorpion Sting brings together a sequence of three big climbs, (20%, 10%, and 14%) beginning 10 miles after the start. The South Downs will provide a big challenge for 126 mile MagnifiCat riders.

“The new Control at Four Marks means that Stoner Hill becomes part of the second stage (42miles with 1175m ascent). The 80 mile Route80Cat return route follows classic rolling countryside to Overton.  The 51mile CommuniCat is an ideal ride for first time sportive cyclists and charity riders, with their main challenge likely to be the climb to Inkpen Beacon shortly after the start.

“And then there’s the 1.9 mile KiddiCat multi-lap ride within the racecourse grounds for children over 6 years old.”

Mavic, who manufacture complete wheel-sets, rims, components, clothing and footwear, will be providing their internationally recognised neutral roadside assistance to cyclists taking part in the Magnificat rides. Skilled technicians will provide mechanical support at registration on the Saturday and on the Sunday will be following the cyclists in their trademark yellow cars and motor bikes to give assistance to cyclists when needed.

TORQ Fitness Consultancy, who has developed a range of performance nutrition products, used extensively in Triathlon, Road and Mountain bike racing, will have their full range of energy bars, gels and drinks available at the Newbury Racecourse HQ. Their isotonic energy drinks will be on tap at the feed and water controls around the courses.

Tracker will again feature at this year’s event. Tracker is an extremely light real-time GPS device that enables cyclists to live report their ride progress and details to anyone with internet access.  The Fire Fighters Charity is offering free use of a Tracker to anyone who signs up to their Gold Bond when entering online.
