SRAM WiFLi is being extended to the company’s high-end Red and Force groupsets, giving riders the option of carrying an 11-32t cassette.

The technology has only previously featured on SRAM’s Apex groupset and has proved popular thanks to the climb-flattening spread of gears.

WiFLi – which stands for Wider, Faster, Lighter – derailleurs have a longer cage which can accommodate cassettes from 11-26t up to 11-32t (the widest range currently available with SRAM Red is 11-28t). Combined with a compact chainset, WiFLi offers a wider gear range than a standard triple, with a weight saving of more than 250g, according to SRAM.

While WiFLi has been a hit with sportive riders, it’s also featured in the pro peloton, with Alberto Contador among the riders to switch to SRAM Apex for the steep climbs of the 2011 Giro d’Italia.

SRAM’s compact Exogram Red crankset, XG-1099 11-32t cassette, and WiFLi rear derailleur will be available from June, as will the SRAM Force WiFLi derailleur.
