Construction work at the Kent Cyclopark is on track to be completed in August.
The 43-hectare site, located next to the A2 between Dartford and Gravesend, will be three times bigger than the London 2012 legacy Velopark, with a 2.9km long, 6m wide Tarmac road racing track which, with additional funding, can be increased to 5.3km.
That, along with a 340m BMX track, 6km of mountain bike trails and skate park, is due to be completed this summer, opening for limited use through the winter.
A pavilion, which will be home to training and changing facilities, a café, community space and bike and equipment hire, is due to be completed in February next year, with the park to be fully operational and officially opened in May 2012.
“With an estimated 9.5 million people living within an hour’s drive of the site, Cyclopark will offer world class facilities to enable the growth of the many different disciplines within the sport,” said project manager Laurence Tricker.
