'Battle for Beijing' at Floodlit Bike Race!

In the thick of the action at the 2003 Nocturne

The promoters of Britain’s only floodlit bike race have managed to attract
three of the UK’s best Pro riders to their event. Tour de France heros, Bradley
Wiggins, Mark Cavendish and Geraint Thomas will ride at the Shropshire Star
Newport Nocturne on Saturday, September 1st.

The riders will take part in a special 1 lap time trial called the "Battle
for Beijing". Also taking part will be KLR/Parker International’s Rob Hayles,
an Olympic medallist, plus local youngster Simon Holt of Recycling.

Promoter Nick Jeggo said "It’s fantastic to have Bradley riding at the
Nocturne, he’s not only a brilliant rider, but an example to aspiring cyclists
in the UK. I have to say the pressure has been on us over the last few weeks
to come up with something big for this year’s event. In 2003 we had Sean Kelly
here and in 2005 we had the Olympian Challenge Time Trial with the likes of
Jason Queally and Paul Manning. Attracting Mark Cavendish and Geraint Thomas
to Newport was a big achievement but now with Bradley coming it’s the icing
on the cake! It’s fantastic to be able to bring top riders to our little town."

The evening will begin with the "Past Masters" race for ex-Pros.
This event is in aid of the Dave Rayner Fund which sends young riders abroad
to develop their talent. This will be followed by the "Battle for Beijing"
and then the main Elite race, part of the National Circuit Series.

The Shropshire Star Newport Nocturne takes place on the evening of Saturday,
September 1st on a 1.2 mile circuit in the centre of Newport. See www.bikerace.co.uk
for details.

Nocturne Lap Prize For Sale on Ebay!
The promoters of the Shropshire Star Newport Nocturne have come up with a novel
way to raise funds for a cycling charity. They are selling a lap prize (prime)
on Ebay! The lap prize will be awarded during their popular "Past Masters"
event for ex-Pro cyclists. The Nocturne is Britains only floodlit bike race
and always attracts a large crowd.

The winner of the item gets the chance to have themselves, their company or
message advertised during the commentary. Promoter, Nick Jeggo said "Within
reason, we don’t mind what people want to advertise or say, whether it’s to
advertise a product, say "Happy Birthday" or even propose!"

The rider who actually wins the lap prize won’t get the cash though, because
all the money raised will go to the Dave Rayner Fund. The Fund commemorates
the life of one of the UK’s great cyclists while raising money to send promising
young cyclists to develop their talent abroad.

The Ebay auction number is 230160913457. Alternatively it can be found by searching
for Newport Nocturne Pro Cycling Lap Prize. The auction ends at 3:56pm on Tuesday
21/8/07.

The Shropshire Star Newport Nocturne takes place on the evening of Saturday,
September 1st on a 1.2 mile circuit in the centre of the small Shropshire market
town.
