Bike Pure anti-doping group

Bike Pure is an independent anti-doping group that was conceived a little over eight months ago to help restore some much needed credibility to cycle sport, which has been tarnished by a near-continuous series of doping scandals over recent years.

Bike Pure hope that they can focus more attention on the clean riders who join their campaign by promoting them through positive means. With over 50 well established pro riders, including several World Champions across various disciplines, already associated with Bike Pure’s new clean image, the future is at least looking a little brighter although there is much work to be done.

Andy Layhe, co-founder of Bike Pure, says: “We encourage professional riders, teams, fans and companies associated with the cycling industry to simply add their name to our campaign via our site to show their support. We are non-profit (donations can be made via our website) and are working around the clock for a cleaner image for cycling”.

This month also saw the addition of several high profile pro riders and teams including Ryan Baumann (Trek Livestrong), Magnus Backstedt’s new development squad Magnus Maximus Coffee.Com, South Africa’s Team Medscheme, Rene Weissinger (Team Vorarlberg Corratec) and South Africa’s largest contingent of cyclists – the 4,000 strong Toyota Cycle Lab Supercycling team.

Talented young Australian Travis Meyer (SouthAustralia.com-AIS), brother of Garmin’s Cameron Meyer, also joined and said “I’m proud to be a part of Bike Pure, who are helping to stop doping in our sport. I am also proud to say that I am a clean cyclist and if everyone follows in the same direction, cycling will get the recognition and respect that this great sport deserves.”

Several Bike Pure riders are riding the Giro d’Italia, Tour of Italy, over the coming weeks. They include Cameron Meyer (Garmin), Robbie Hunter (Barloworld), Olivier Kaisen and Pieter Jacobs (Silence-Lotto) Philip Deignan and Dan Lloyd (Cervelo). We wish the guys all the best over the race and you can follow updates via our website.

Bike Pure are to produce a cycling jersey to help promote the campaign. It is being produced by Blackbottoms Cycle Wear in the USA and will be available in the coming weeks. Andy Layhe of Bike Pure said: “The biggest request we receive from members is for a Bike Pure jersey, so we asked our members for feedback about the design and it will thankfully go into production soon. We would like to thank all the members who contributed.”

The Bike Pure website, www.BikePure.org has all the latest developments and also includes interviews, resources and a list of all their pro riders.
