Clancy leads Rapha Condor JLT to Revolution series victory

Ed Clancy delivered another dominant performance in the final round of the Revolution series to lead his Rapha Condor JLT team to overall victory.

Clancy, the reigning world and Olympic team pursuit champion, made it four victories in four rounds in the flying lap.

He then won the points race, before racking up a third victory of the evening in the madison race, riding with team-mate, James McCallum.

Homegrown hero, McCallum, the Scottish road race champion, and racing in front of 4,000 fans at Glasgow’s new Sir Chris Hoy velodrome, described teammate Clancy’s performance as “unbelievable”.

“It was an amazing night. Ed was unbelievable again, and the crowd really pushed me all the way.

“It was a good fight for the overall and it feels good to get the win in the bag. I can’t wait to be back doing this again,” he said.

McCallum is hoping to race for Scotland at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Clancy sealed his team’s triumph with a courageous performance in the scratch race, securing a close overall victory for his Rapha Condor JLT team.

The British team, whose young riders are racing on the road in Australia, faced a sustained challenge in the Revolution series from Rudy Project RT.

Nico Hesslich won the elimination race, and Christian Grasmann finished second to Clancy in the points race.

But ultimately their challenge was insufficient to topple the Clancy-led Rapha Condor JTL squad, from their position at the top of the final points table.

Highlights of the final round of the Revolution Series will be broadcast by ITV4 at 8pm on Thursday (Feb 7) and then made available on the ITV Player for 30 days.
