Dan Fleeman retains national hill climb title

Hill climb specialist Dan Fleeman, pictured riding for Cervelo in 2009, was in red-hot form

Team Raleigh’s Dan Fleeman defended his National Hill Climb Championship title in style with a convincing victory on Dover’s Hill in Gloucestershire.

The 28-year-old beat Matt Clinton into second, as he did in 2009, by 6.6 seconds, while Team Corley’s Michael Smith was 14 seconds adrift.

Fleeman stopped the clock in 3:41.1 minutes on the 1,487 yard course which has an average gradient of 10 per cent but ramps up far steeper in sections.

Meanwhile, Team NCA’s Lynn Hamel reclaimed her title from 2008 in the women’s event, clocking 5:04.0 to stand 81st overall and more than 10 seconds ahead of the next best woman, Team Zappi’s Chrissy Radon.
