Dates for your diary: the 2013 Tour of Britain will take place on September 15-22.
The route for the eight-stage race will be revealed “in the spring”, according to the race organisers, although Surrey County Council last month announced a stage will once again take place in the county in 2013.
An estimated 200,000 spectators lined Surrey’s roads to watch this year’s final stage from Reigate to Guildford, where Mark Cavendish (Team Sky) took the stage win and Jonathan Tiernan-Locke (Endura Racing), who will ride for Team Sky in 2013, claimed the overall title.
The 2012 edition was hailed as the most successful since the race return to the calendar in 2004, with Tiernan-Locke the first Briton to win the event, previously known as the Milk Race, in 19 years, while a daily average of 382,000 viewers tuned in to ITV4’s live coverage and highlights show.
