Wilier – quality – now at a really good price |
Campagnolo Veloce ‘Skeleton’ braking |
For those who didn’t know Wilier are an Italian frame builders. Ridden by Cofidis and Lampre. Also once the frame that carried Marco Pantani in his final racing season. We tested the team bike, the Le Roi a while back, so there’s a bit more history there…
Anyway for 2007 Wilier have made their latest bike, the Mortirolo, fit into that price point where all the action is – £1500. For this you get a full carbon frame and fork and a full Campagnolo Ultra Torque gruppo and some very nice carbon finishing bits. Fancy Record? well for a smidge over £2k you’ll be able to get a complete Record Ultra Torque equipped Mortirolo – sounds pretty reasonable.
We’ve also had a sneak preview of the full 2007 range, there’s a ‘cross bike and a few brand new top end frames to look forward too. We will bring you all the pictures next week from Eurobike.
The main pull of Wilier brand is the quality of the frames and the attention to the fine details in build quality and component choice. Compared to big names these bikes are all hand assembled and tweaked before they leave the factory.
The basic finishing kits include:
ITM Racer bars and stem
FSA Carbon seatpost
Selle Italia Filante saddle
Ultra Torque Compact Cranks 50/34T
