Jeremy Hunt gave notice of a welcome return to form with victory today in the 29th GP la Marseillaise over a strong field that included T-Mobile’s Roger Hammond and last year’s winner Baden Cooke. Hunt’s win gave his Unibet.com team a second successive win in the event, after pre-race doubts whether Unibet.com would even be allowed to start the race. The Swedish-owned online sports betting company may fall foul of French gambling law, which allows only casinos and state-run gambling organisations to operate. The British rider produced his usual powerful finish to relegate Russian Mikhail Ingnatiev (Tinkoff Credit Systems) and Belgian Staf Scheirlinckx (Cofidis) to second and third places respectively over a 126km course between Gardanne and Luminy. Fellow Brit Roger Hammond(T-Mobile) finished in ninth place.
