Stage 1: Glasgow to Castle Douglas – Tuesday 29 August
The Tour will kick off on Glasgow Green at 10:15am. Be sure to get there early, as surrounding roads will be closed. Watch the riders get ready to start the Tour of Britain – some may even find the time to sign autographs.
The neutralised section of this stage will be about 4.6kms long, so the race will begin properly at about 10:35am at the Nerston Village Sign on the A749.
If you want to watch the first sprint of the Tour of Britain, get over to Cumnock Business Park, where riders are expected to pass through shortly before midday.
The first section of the King of the Mountains competition will be on the B471 as the road climbs into Dalmellington. Riders are expected to get to this point from 12:20pm but, again, get there early in order to get a good spot from which to spectate.
Riders will be grabbing a drink on the move at the feed station located at Carsphairn, before heading up Shiel Hill on the B7000 – the site of the second King of the Mountains stretch. The race will pass through here around 1:00pm.
Patrons of Kitty’s Tea Room will be treated to a fine sight as New Galloway hosts the second sprint of the day. Get there early for a spot of lunch and watch the race stream past at around 1:25pm.
The third and final sprint of this opening stage of the Tour of Britain will take place in Kirkcudbright opposite the Body and Soul gym. Riders are expected to pass here at around 2:10pm. Riders will then go immediately into the final King of the Mountains section, on the B727 near Gelston.
The race will finish in Castle Douglas at the corner of Market Hill and King Street from 2:35pm onwards. Be sure to get there nice and early if you want to get the best view of the finish line and enjoy the entertainment that the Food Town will be laying on for visitors.
