Peter Sagan (Cannondale Pro Cycling) is one of the favourites for tomorrow’s prestigious Tour of Flanders.
The 23-year-old Slovak sensation, winner last year of 16 races, and the Tour de France green jersey, has begun 2013 in fine style.
His victory last Sunday (March 24) at Gent-Wevelgem, his first win in the Classics, was hugely impressive.
Sagan simply motored away from his breakaway companions, among them the vastly experienced Classics competitors including Juan Antonio Flecha (Vacansoleil-DCM) and Team Sky’s Bernie Eisel.
Behind the Ride: Gent-Wevelgem 2013 a Road Cycling video by CannondaleProCycling
This video from Cannondale Pro Cycling shows the tactics behind Sagan’s incredible victory, from a discussion of team tactics held the day before the race, to pre-race bike checks, and instructions from the team car.
There’s bad new for Sagan’s rivals at 3.17. “I’m very happy,” he smiles, “because now maybe I’ve broken the ice for another big victory in the Classics.”
