The 10th Anniversary Leukaemia Research Wirral Bikeathon will start at 9.30 am on Sunday 8th June 2008 in Arrowe Country Park, Upton, Birkenhead.
The Wirral Bikeathon is a fantastic cycling event for the whole family, giving everyone the opportunity to have a fun day out, enjoy some healthy exercise and raise money through sponsorship to support the vital work of Leukaemia Research.
Leukaemia Research is the first, and still the only national charity solely devoted to research into the causes and treatment of leukaemia and related blood disorders in children and adults.
The 26 mile route follows a figure of eight through the spectacular Wirral peninsula with two sections each about 13 miles combining public highways and off-road along the scenic Wirral Way. Ideal for both advanced cyclists and beginners, participants can elect to ride either one or both sections.
The day itself has a real party atmosphere, with guest appearances from the Wirral Peninsula Jazz Band, over 80 marshals to cheer cyclists on and ensure safety and free light refreshments provided at feeding points along the route.
To date, this event has raised £415,000.00 for this great cause, and is aiming to raise another £85,000.00 to bring our total over 10 years to an amazing £500,000.00.
