Midland Monster Sportive 2009

The Midland Monster sportive has been organised by Wheels in Wheels CC (also organisers of the Forest of Dean Classic) in association with CC Giro to offer a challenging route around the Peak District on 17 May.

Using many well proven routes into the lower Peak District on roads that are as yet unused in any other UK sportive and solely based in the Midlands, the event starts just outside Burton-on-Trent at the very picturesque Rosliston Forestry Centre.

There will be routes for all abilities. The 160km route offers a good test of fitness with over 5000ft of varied climbing, while a 120km route will appeal to those not wanting to go for extra mileage.

High5 will provide fully supported feed stops will be on both routes to keep everyone going. There is also a family ride of 25km around the roads local to Rosliston Forestry Centre so everyone can come along and ride a distance that suits them.

“Dan Martin, the Garmin Slipstream professional, grew up training on these roads and he’s no slouch on the hills,” says Neil Martin, Dan’s father and former British road race champion who has helped plan the route. “We wanted to show people that the roads round the Midlands can be as challenging as anywhere in the country.”

The entry fee includes an after ride meal and a generous goody bag, plus a donation to the Geoff Thomas Foundation. Entries are restricted to 400 so early entry is advised.
