FIRST LOOK: PRO Bike Gear

Nice aero stuff from Pro

The Prologue winning Aero Bar by PRO

The 2006 Tour de France has been a great one for PRO Bike Gear, OK it’s not the first name you think of when speccing extras and contact points for a new bike, but they are (according to themselves) the world’s fastest growing bicycle accessory brand. The Rabobank team have used them on their squad Colnagos for a while now, so if it’s good enough for Oscar and Michael…

In no fewer than 9 stages of this year’s incredible ‘Tour of mixed fortunes’, the winners of the stage were using one or more PRO products, along with a few of the 2007 prototypes. we hope to get some test gear soon.

In the meantime, here’s the details from their post-Tour press release:

Prologue – Thor Hushovd, Credit Agricole Cycling Team

Using PRO’s carbon disc wheels and the Missile Time Trail Handlebars, Thor Hushovd won the prologue in Strasbourg, surprising all the specialists in this field.

Stages 5 and 9 – Oscar Freire, Rabobank Cycling Team

With a prototype of PRO’s 2007 compact carbon handlebar and the proven PLT stem, Oscar Freire out sprinted everybody. Twice.

Stage 7 and 19 – Serhiy Honchar, T-Mobile Cycling Team

In his own special style, Serhiy Honchar was twice superior in the long time trails. As well as his other T-Mobile colleagues Andreas Klöden and World Time Trial Champion Michael Rogers. He was using the PRO disc wheel and the new secret weapon the 4-Rays time trial front wheel.

Stage 10 – Juan Miguel Mercado, Agritubel Cycling Team

Using the combination of PLT handlebar and stem Juan Miguel Mercado was the strongest in the stage to Pau – a classic and famous Tour de France finish, where everybody wants to win.

Stage 11 – Denis Menchov, Rabobank Cycling Team

Beating the later Tour de France winner must have felt good for Denis Menchov for whom this stage win was the cream on the cake of a great Tour de France finishing 6th. overall.

Stage 16 – Michael Rasmussen, Rabobank Cycling Team

One of the toughest mountain stages was won by ‘King of the mountains’ Michael Rasmussen in his hunt for the polka dot jersey that he won for the 2nd time in a row. As light weight freak Michael chose for PRO’s Stealth carbon handlebar/stem combination that weights only 350 gram’s.

Stage 20 – Thor Hushovd, Credit Agricole Cycling Team

I won the first so I must win the last! was probably on Thor’s mind when sprinting to a superior victory on the Champs Elysees. He also was using the PLT handlebar and stem which seems to fit the demand of every type of rider from climber to super sprinter.

PRO wants to congratulate these great riders on their victories and at the same time thank them and their teams for assisting us in the development of our products. The best test for us is the test done by them in world’s hardest race – the Tour de France.

Nice front wheel, there’s a disc too…
