As the Games of the XXVIII Olympiad came to a close Ribble Valley based Sports Nutrition Company Science in Sport were left proudly counting the medal success of sponsored athletes who represented Team GB.
Highest accolade goes to Britain’s most successful Olympian for 40 years Bradley Wiggins. A user of Science in Sport products since the age of 13, the northern based Londoner returned with a record breaking 3 medals – one of each colour from cycling events in the Velodrome.
Pride of place goes to his Gold medal and Olympic Record in the 4km individual pursuit. He also collected a Silver in the 4km Team Pursuit and an amazing Bronze won with determination in the final sprint of the Madison following an earlier dramatic crash by team mate and Science in Sport sponsored rider Rob Hayles. Rob also won a silver medal alongside Brad in the team pursuit, along with other sponsored riders Bryan Steel and Steve Cummings.
Elsewhere Stephen Parry of Stockport Metro won one of only two British swimming medals when he collected Bronze and set a new British record in the process in the 200m Butterfly. Stephen has been a Science in Sport sponsored athlete since 1993. Also Debbie Flood won an impressive Silver Medal in Rowing as part of the women’s coxless quadruple sculls.
We asked SIS, what nutrition products does Bradley Wiggins use? Peter Slater SIS Marketing man explains all:Brad uses a combination of drinks and Gels when racing/training. He uses PSP22 in Orange and Orange GO~Gels, he uses quite a lot of Rego Rapid and Rego Nocte to help his recovery when doing hard sessions or stage races. Gels are important to him when riding with Credit Agricole because they don’t have a good nutrition sponsor so if he doesn’t get his own drinks in the car he uses GO~Gel’s with water. He takes GO~BARs with him as well because he’s not always guaranteed good food in the hotels they stay in so at least he has good quality products available all the time.
