Cookson to challenge McQuaid for UCI presidency
British Cycling president Brian Cookson announces campaign to become UCI president
Between 2006 and 2013 Patrick McQuaid was the President of the UCI. During his tenure he has come under repeated criticism due to his effort to tackle doping within the sport. His two terms were beset by allegations and accusations against him and other senior professionals in the sport and McQuaid struggled to maintain leadership in the sport as scale of doping operations came to light.
