British success was the order of the weekend as the Classics season got underway in Belgium.
Ian Stannard’s Omloop Het Nieuwsblad victory was followed 24 hours later by Mark Cavendish triumphing at Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne on a great two days for British cycle sport.
They were two very different wins – one a show of tactical nous and triumph in the face of unfavourable odds and the other a powerful sprint victory to affirm early-season form.
