The Classics season continued apace on Saturday with the 2015 edition of the Strade Bianche – and Etixx-QuickStep’s Zdenek Stybar triumphed in Siena.
The three-time world cyclo-cross champion tamed southern Tuscany’s white gravel roads to jump clear of Greg Van Avermaet (BMC Racing) and Alejandro Valverde (Movistar) on the final climb into the historic Piazza del Campo after the trio broke clear.
Victory for Stybar bodes well for the rest of the Classics season, with the 29-year-old looking to better his seventh and fifth place finishes at Milan San-Remo and Paris-Roubaix in 2014.
The combination of dusty gravel roads and the rolling Tuscan hills makes the Strade Bianche one of the most beautiful races on the calendar. Here’s how the action of unfolded through the lens of Stefano Sirotti.
