Great Britain topped the 2016 UCI Track Cycling World Championship medal table at London’s Lee Valley VeloPark – finishing with five golds, one silver and three bronze medals.
Sir Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish rounded off the week by winning the Madison in stunning style – replicating their 2008 win in Manchester – after Laura Trott had twice struck gold and Jason Kenny and Jonathan Dibben also earned rainbow jerseys.

It was five days of contrasting emotions for the Brits though, with Cavendish’s Olympic hopes hanging by a thread after finishing sixth in the omnium – outside of his top-three target – and the women’s team pursuit having to recover from a disastrous qualification to claim bronze.

The men’s team pursuit squad took silver, meanwhile, and will look to exact revenge on the Aussies at the Olympic Games in Rio later this year, but the women’s team sprint pairing of Jessica Varnish and Katy Marchant were unable to do enough to qualify a spot for the summer.
