Laura Trott continued to prove herself Britain’s undoubted queen of the track as the first UCI Track World Cup event of the 2013/14 season drew to a close in Manchester.
The 21-year-old surged to the omnium gold medal with a stunning performance on the final day, winning two events and finishing second in the other to overtake Canada’s Gillian Carleton and earn overall victory.
While Trott, who was also part of Team GB’s world record-breaking team pursuit quartet on Friday night, remains the stand-out rider in endurance racing however, Germany’s Kristina Vogel is fast building a reputation as the sprint queen.
The Olympic team sprint champion powered to her third gold medal of the weekend in the keirin as the Germans racked up five gold medals in all.
