Wiggins could only sit back as Chris Froome won the 2013 Tour de France.

With the Kenyan-born Brit the toast of the nation, Sir Brad bounced back to end his season on a high at the Tour of Britain.

Wiggins excelled having been granted the backing of a strong line-up for the British race against one of the strongest fields in the race’s history – Nairo Quintana and Dan Martin included.

A superb time trial performance moved Wiggins into the overall lead before team-mate David Lopez worked wonders on Haytor to guide Wiggins to safety on the Tour of Britain’s first summit finish.

And Wiggins kept the gold leader’s jersey into London to seal his first overall victory of the season, before taking that form to Italy with time trial silver at the World Championships in Florence.
