Team Sky headline the entry list for the inaugural Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic next month, where they will join seven other current Tour de France teams on the capital’s roads one year on from the Olympic Games.
The race, part of the Prudential RideLondon cycling festival, takes place on the second day of the event, which runs from Saturday August 3 to Sunday August 4.
And Sky will be joined on the start line by fellow UCI WorldTour teams Cannondale Pro Cycling, Garmin-Sharp, FDJ, Orica-GreenEDGE, Vacansoleil-DCM and Belkin Pro Cycling, as well as the ProContinental-registered Sojasun squad, who are also currently riding the Tour.
Race director Mick Bennett said: “There has been huge interest in the event from the top teams.
“The route, which is a variation of that used for the Olympic Road Cycling event plus three circuits of Leith Hill, together with extensive coverage on BBC and international TV, has been a big draw.”
Developed in conjunction with the Mayor of London, London & Partners and Transport for London in partnership with Surrey County Council, the event is preceded by the Prudential RideLondon Cycling Show at the ExCel from August 1-3.
The biggest one-day race to be held in the UK is likely to include many riders currently competing at the Tour de France, while there will be a healthy home interest for British cycling fans.
Six British UCI Continental squads are set to ride, including Olympic track medallist Ed Clancy’s Rapha Condor-JLT team, while a Great Britain national team of homegrown talent will also be on the start line in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
In total 22 of the 25 teams competing in the 140-mile Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic have been revealed and the complete line-up of teams and riders will be confirmed after the end of the Tour de France.
