Sylvain Chavanel leads IAM Cycling at this year’s Tour of Britain on the back of a run of recent success.
The Frenchman won the GP Ouest France-Plouay at the weekend, having just veen crowned Tour du Poitou-Charentes champion, on the back of a strong time trial, just days earlier.
And now Chavanel will ride the Tour of Britain for the team who last year, through Martin Elmiger, took second place overall.
Elmiger made up ground overall with five top-ten finishes in all, and the variety of course on this year’s route, several of which look well-suited Chavanel, mean he is certainly capable of replicating the Swiss veteran’s feat.
He and Matthias Frank, who has also been provisionally selected, have done plenty of attacking this year and will be contenders for the undulating stages where they could snatch some crucial time gaps at the denouement.
Chavanel has already also finished third at the Baloise Belgium Tour and second at the Four Days of Dunkirk, and is certainly going to be one to watch again.
