Team IG-Sigma Sport have announced their second mid-season rider acquisition.
The British UCI Continental squad has signed George Harper from the Felt Colbornes-Hargroves RT outfit.
Last month, IG-Sigma Sport announced the signing of Ben Greenwood from Hope Factory Racing to further strengthen the squad.
Harper thanked Felt Colbornes-Hargroves RT for its support, and said he was looking forward to pulling on the red an black kit of IG-Sigma Sport.
“As I am new to the sport, it is very exciting that things are moving so quickly in my career; this move, to such a great team gives me further confidence in my career in cycling,” he said.
IG-Sigma Sport have hit form in recent weeks, winning the final round of the Premier Calendar series with Joe Perrett, and currently leading Sweden’s Tour of Jamtland with Pete Williams.
Perrett won the British 25-mile time trial championship earlier this year, and last month Perrett and team-mates, Wouter Sybrandy, and Andrew Griffiths, won the national team time trial championships.
The turn-around in fortunes after a winless early-season campaign will be welcomed by the team’s management, with the Tour of Britain only a month away, and organisers warning there will be no automatic selection for teams from the home nation.
A spokesperson for the squad said Harper would race the remainder of the UK calendar for the team and some European races.
Simon Howes, the team’s directeur sportif, said Harper would benefit from the support and experience of his new colleagues.
“He fully deserves a spot on a UCI team and I’m delighted we can give him that opportunity,” he added.
IG-Sigma Sport expressed its gratitude for the “support and understanding” of Felt Colbornes-Hargroves RT during the transfer.
