Sir Bradley Wiggins rocks up at local club ten… and smashes it

The former world time trial champion was snapped on the startline by surprised fellow competitors

Sir Bradley Wiggins was a surprise competitor at a local club ten last night – and unsurprisingly set the fastest time with a cool average speed of 31.17mph.

The Team Wiggins rider, in training for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, took a sojourn from the track with a test against the clock out on the road.

He was snapped ahead of the Rainford 10 event in Bickerstaffe, easily distinguishable in the kit of his eponymous team.

Complete with the rainbow-striped cuffs – a reminder of his 2014 world time trial victory – Wiggins set a time of 19:15 on the D10/1 course, 39 seconds faster than the next nearest competitor.

It is not the first time Wiggins has rode a club ten – he donned the rainbow skinsuit in Hull last year in one of his rare road appearances after switching his focus to the track.

British time trial champion Alex Dowsett is another to regularly go back to his roots – the Essex rider set a new British 25-mile time trial record of 44.29 near Newmarket last month.
