LOW – Tour of Britain 2015
After Andre Greipel dominated the sprints at the 2015 Tour de France, Cavendish had the chance to fight back against the German at the Tour of Britain.
But Elia Viviani foiled them both on stage one, sneaking past Cavendish on the Wrexham finishing line, before the Italian won again on stage three as Cavendish was held up by the big crash suffered by team-mate and race leader Petr Vakoc.
And things weren’t to get any better for Cavendish, as he too went down in a crash on stage six of the race after colliding with a parked car, forcing him out of the race and onto the surgeon’s table with a shoulder injury.
That meant no UCI Road World Championships for Cavendish and also no place at the inaugural Abu Dhabi Tour, where he would have looked to repeat the Dubai Tour success he earned on his last trip to the United Arab Emirates.
And with his move to MTN-Qhubeka now confirmed, Cavendish’s last action as an Etixx-QuickStep rider came in that Tour of Britain crash – a disappointing end to a three-year stint with the team, filled with highs and lows.
But now it’s time for the next chapter.
