The Tour of Flanders is a brutally tough race but it takes some time – 87.2km – for the Hellingen to kick in on the 264.9km route.
Tinkoff-Saxo’s contribution to the in-race videos which have emerged from the race show Peter Sagan trailing a team-mate in the peloton as they fight to keep their chief contender near to the front of the bunch.
Slovakian national champion Sagan went on to finish fourth, beaten to the last spot on the podium by Greg van Avermaet – the Belgian’s second fourth-place finish in consecutive Monument races after Milan-San Remo.
The video provides a fascinating insight into how a team leader is marshaled around the peloton by a domestique, and the crucial role they play as a result.
