Adam Yates (Orica-GreenEDGE) – Tour of Turkey stage six
Adam Yates’ performances in 2014 provided plenty of excitement for British fans, with impressive results across the board from the Bury-born neo-pro.
Having already proved he could compete at the sharp end of races, the 21-year-old topped the podium Tour of Turkey.
Already a successful race for Brits, with Mark Cavendish having picked up three stage wins – later adding a fourth to conclude a fine eight days – Yates got in on the act himself in Selcuk.
His attack with one kilometre to go was pre-planned but he executed his acceleration to perfection, leaving race leader Rein Taaramae (Cofidis) trailing in his wake.
Needing to overhaul a six-second deficit, Yates took seven out of the Estonian to claim the race lead and marked his rival on the following two sprint stages to seal the biggest win of his fledgling career.
